I have lived in San Diego for 2.5 years now and I have only used Gone Whale Watching (GGW) as my go to whale watching company. I have gone out on the water with them about 10 times since living here. What I love & respect about this company is that they are ALWAYS going to keep whales & humans safety as their top priority. The boats here are smaller, you can fit about 8-10 people on board sometimes less depending on the boat, and this makes for an incredible whale watching experience. In my experience, that means you are also talking to people on board who have a love/passion for marine life which is always good energy. In terms of safety - this means they will approach whales, dolphins, and any marine animals at safe speeds & distances. This may also mean a canceled tour if the weather conditions are not safe which is always a hard pill to swallow but again, SAFETY = #1. Something you HAVE to know before you go out onto the water is we are dealing with wild animals. We truly have no idea who or what we’re going to see or if you will see any animals at all. This is the beauty & caveat to these beautiful creatures, we’re at the mercy of fate/luck seeing them out in the water. What I will say is, GWW will cover the most ground and work the hardest to find the animals. Lastly, but not least… after going out into the water around 10x I FINALLY got to see Orcas or Killer Whales on December 18th, 2023 - all thanks to GWW.
